The Women in Distress (WID) mission is to provide victims of domestic violence with safe shelter, crisis intervention and resources, and to educate the community in order to Stop Abuse For Everyone (SAFE) through Intervention, Education and Advocacy.
WID provides services and classes for victims of domestic violence: survivor individual and group counseling for men, women, children and same-sex relationships; female anger management; parenting skills; self esteem groups; life skills training and more. Shelters are also available to women and children who escape from an abusive environment. Clients feel secure while they obtain permanent housing and legal, medical and employment assistance. Residents of the shelter do not pay for housing, clothing, and non-perishable foods, and are provided with group counseling, domestic violence education, parent effectiveness training and financial management. Male survivors of are referred to an appropriate shelter specific to the needs of men.
