Gilda’s Club of South Florida is a free, nonprofit cancer support community. Its mission is to provide a warm and comforting environment where men, women, and children touched by cancer can receive social and emotional support, networking, and education.
Gilda’s Club is named in honor of comedian Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer in 1989. During her treatment, she had visited a cancer support community in Los Angeles, and discovered that she was not alone. She found people who shared her same fears—fears that no one else could understand. One of her last wishes was that one day there would be support communities everywhere for people living with cancer.
Philosophy:
- When cancer happens, it happens to the whole family and their surrounding community.
- YOU are the expert. Gilda’s Club provides activities and networking opportunities that allow members to learn from the collective wisdom of the group, feel empowered in their decision-making, and find new ways to live with cancer.
- Individuals and families living with cancer deserve access to emotional and social support, as well as the best educational opportunities, without an added financial burden.
