Founded in 1971 as the Early Childhood Development Association, the organization originally provided affordable quality child care for low-income families. Now, Family Central is the largest family support organization in Florida, annually serving nearly 70,000 children and families from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Services Family Central provides:
- Child Care Provider Services:
- Early Care and Education- Training and technical assistance to school readiness providers;
- Education and Training- Technical assistance and training to child care providers to help them meet the standards of federal, state and local agencies.
- Clinical and Family Support Services:
- Family Support- Assessing the needs of both children and their families by providing any combination of social services;
- Clinical Services- Counseling and parenting programs offered with flexible hours to accommodate work and school schedules. Clients are seen at their homes, schools, child care centers, after-school programs and counseling offices;
- Child Development and Counseling- One-to-one developmental counseling and assessment of a child’s behavior to determine the physical, intellectual and emotional skills needed to live, work and learn for children 18 years of age and younger.
- Resource and Referral: Provided as part of a statewide and national network that works with children, families, child care providers and employers by promoting, educating and supporting the development of quality early care and education.
- Eligibility, Determination and Enrollment for Financially Assisted School Readiness Services: Working with an extensive network of child care providers throughout South Florida to help ensure facilities abide by safety standards and licensing rules.
- Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program (VPK): Its mission is to ensure all children are intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially ready to enter school and ready to learn, fully recognizing the crucial role of parents as their child’s first teacher.
